During our stay in the cabin, we were snowed in and had to make do with the foods we had stocked. Fortunately, we happened to have Fieldroast brand’s delicious Italian style Vegan sausage, some peppers and onions. Obviously it was meant to be that we indulge in this Italian classic dish. My boyfriend who is not fully-vegan (yet) said he preferred this plant-based alternative to the real thing. And, he’s an Italian… that’s a huge compliment coming from him. So, if you’re skeptical about this dish, trust me and just give it a try. You have nothing to lose, except missing out on a tasty meal thats filling and healthy.
sautéed sausage & peppers ingredients:
- 1/2 white onion, sliced
- 2 green bell peppers, sliced
- 1 package of 4 Fieldroast Italian style Vegan sausage, chopped
- 2 tsp grapeseed oil
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 Knorr brand homestyle vegetable broth pods
- 1 cup water
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- cracked pepper
sautéed sausage & peppers directions: Heat the grapeseed oil in a large skillet on high heat. Add your sliced onions and allow to sauté for about 10 minutes. Next, add in the sliced peppers and cook for another 10 minutes. Reduce the temperature to medium heat. Add the broth pods, tomato paste, salt & pepper, garlic & onion powders. Allow these folks to get acquainted together and create a nice juicy sauce. Then, add in the chopped vegan sausage and continue to cook for another 10 minutes. Depending on how quickly the liquid is cooking off, you might need to add more water into the sauce. Once the consistency is thicker and the sausage is sufficiently cooked, remove from heat. Serve with rice, pasta or on its own. Bon appetit!
